Washington Township Fire Department

Base 60

Washington Township is located along the westside of Fort Wayne in Allen County. First established in 1945 this combination department provides Fire, Tactical Rescue and BLS protection to approximately 10,000 residents of the Township.

Base 60 - Washington Township Fire Station - 1834 W. Wallen Road at Lima Road
This ever-expanding firehouse was first built in 1948 with the community center on the far left and the current living quarters. The double-wide bay was built in 1956 and the right 3 bays (front section) were added in 1963. Finally a far right back section was completed in 1977.

Engine 62 - 1992 Pierce Dash Pumper (E-6735) - 1500gpm/750gal/20gal foam
Engine 62 is first due for all fire scenes and second due for EMS and Rescue calls.

Tanker 64 - 2013 Peterbilt PB348/Pierce (#26853) - 1000gpm/3000gal
This apparatus replaced the old Tanker 64 which rolled over in a fatal accident in 2012. Tanker 64 is dedicated to Mark Haudenschild II, "686", the FF lost his life in that accident.

Ambulance 65 - 2005 Ford E450/Braun/Lifestar type III - BLS Ambulance
All ambulances dispatched in Allen County are referred to as "Emergency...". Therefore, this rig is actually called "Emergency 65."

Squad 66 - 2003 Chevy Yukon
This apparatus previously served as Command 60. It was reassigned in 2016. Squad 66 serves at both an EMS chase vehicle and for responding additional manpower to incident scenes.

Rescue 68 - 2015 Ford F550/HME (#22808) - 1500gpm/400gal/30A
This former demo unit was purchased in October 2016. Rescue 68 carries extrication tools, struts and cribbing. It has a near twin at nearby St. Joseph Township Fire Rescue in Allen County.

Grass Buggy 69A - 1948 Dodge M37 1 1/2ton 6x6 personnel carrier/1960's FD - 200gpm/500gal


Grass 69 - 1998 Ford F-350 4x4 with 250gpm/250gal skid unit
Until this truck was purchased, WTFD responded to brush fires with a 1940's 6x6 Army truck converted to fire use.

Cart 60 - Club Car
Like may departments in Indiana, WTFD realized the convenience and efficiency of having a small cart available for rapid EMS reponse at large public events, festivals and parades.
