Base 40 - NHAT North Fire Station - 910 Main Street (Downtown New Haven)
Base 40 protects the district's northern area including downtown New Haven. While not located far from the central station, railroad tracks split the district into two sections requiring apparatus for response north of the tracks. This firehouse was originally built in 1936 as the City of New Haven main station. The right three bays are the original station with the larger, left bay added at a later date. This station is currently home to Engines 41 and 42, Tanker 44 and Grass 49.

As shown here, this apparatus originally served as Engine 11 until 2009. It now responds first due for most calls out of Base 40.

Engine 42 is first due for all fire runs and second due for EMS and Rescue calls from the north station.

Tanker 44 - 1999 Freightliner/S&S - 500gpm/2100gal
Due to it's smaller size, Tanker 44 is excellent for making hydrant runs to fill dump tanks at rural fire scenes. This rig swapped assignments (14 to 44) with a larger tanker and now responds from Base 40.
