Southwest Fire District

Base 250 - Station 3

SWFD protects the southwest corner of Allen County immediately south of Fort Wayne. Formed in 1986, this combination department includes 50 volunteers, 13 full-time and 20 part-time firefighters. SWFD provides Fire, Tactical Rescue and BLS protection to 80 square miles and approximately 25,000 residents within the district.

Base 250 - Southwest Allen County Headquarters - Indianapolis Road
Base 250 serves as SWFD headquarters and is home to Engines 251 and 252, Tanker 153, Emergency 255 and Squad 56. It is shown here with retired Engine 251.

Engine 252 - 2007 Spartan Diamond/Crimson (#06095-002) – 2000gpm/1000gal/30A/30B
E-252 includes seating for 5, a 10kw generator and a Hurst gas-powered combi-tool. The front bumper has a cord reel and a 100ft 1-3/4” trash line. A compartment between the cab doors is for stowing the driver’s turnout gear.

E-252 entered service with the department in May 2008.

Tanker 253 - 1992 IHC 4900/Starr Stainless – 500gpm/2600gal
Tanker 253 provides necessary water to the rural areas on the southside of the district including portions of I-469. This apparatus is essentially a twin to Tanker 153, but they were ordered a year apart.

Emergency 255 - 2006 International 4300LP/Horton MPV - Type I Ambulance
In addition to its EMS duties, this apparatus carries a battery-powered Hurst combi tool.

This rig is one of a growing trend amongst FF/Paramedic ALS departments toward roll-up compartments in the cab to include firefighting gear.

Squad 256 - 2008 GMC 2500HD 4x4/Reading
This apparatus is used for medical assist calls and transporting additional manpower to scenes.

Southwest Allen County Training Facility
This excellent facility is located behind Station 251. It serves as a training center for SWACFD and Aboite Township Fire Departments.
