Indiana Fire Trucks History

Indiana Fire Trucks first came online in March of 2004. Originally, the site was created as a way to share with my son apparatus pictures from the various places I visit on business trips. However, through word-of-mouth, the site has grown very quickly with nearly 4,000 photos and 500+ patches. We have had visitors from more than a dozen countries and virtually every state in the US. However, a majority of our visitors continue to be firefighters and fire apparatus enthusiasts from Indiana and the Midwest. We hope to continue to grow IFT to include even more pictures as well as links, resources, history and information about the fire service in Indiana. We welcome you to visit our site often and hope you find it fun, interesting and informative.

Indiana Fire Trucks Personnel

Christopher
Allen

Christopher is the Creator, Webmaster and Chief Photographer for Indiana Fire Trucks. He is married with two boys, and lives in Fishers, Indiana. As a young child, his first trips to the firehouse occured in Delaware where his uncle and great grandfather served as firefighters. From an early age, he was always excited by and interested in fire apparatus of all sorts. Watching hours of the TV show Emergency! certainly had something to do with that as well. Christopher is still a relative newcomer to Apparatus Photography, having only begun to start shooting rigs in 2002. However, in these short years he has visited more than 250 stations and photographed well over 1,800 apparatus. "I have really enjoyed meeting so many interesting people and hearing the stories and history behind our departments and the greatest job in the world. The best part is having a hobby to share with my boys for many years to come." Christopher's pictures have been featured in FireRescue1.com's website, the IAFF Local 416's Newsletter, The Helmet, and the Indianapolis Fire Department Yearbook 1993-2007.

Cameras: Nikon D40x and Sony H-1
Favorite apparatus: Quints, Snorkels and older American LaFrance rigs.

Connor Allen

Connor is a up-and-coming photographer for Indiana Fire Trucks. His first trip to the firehouse occurred when he was only 2 years old. Since then, he has been very interested in firefighting and fire apparatus. Christopher and Connor make regular visits to various stations around Central Indiana. Over the past two years, Connor has gotten very interested in photography and has begun to contribute several photographs to the site. He has also given presentations to his fellow classmates about the site and fire apparatus in general.

Camera: Sony H-1 - Favorite Apparatus: Ladder Trucks.

Brett Jackson

Brett is a photographer, researcher and assistant webmaster for IFT. He started as an avid visitor to the site in 2004, but has since become a frequent contributor. Brett lives in downtown Indianapolis and has been photographing fire apparatus since 2003. His district includes IFD Battalion 13 and 14 and Perry Township. He also covers large emergencies, department events and multi-company drills countywide. Brett's pictures have been featured regularly in the IAFF Local 416's Newsletter, The Helmet. He also does a large amount of behind-the-scenes work with IFT's website organization and page creation along with researching department and apparatus information.

Camera: Nikon D70 - Favorite Apparatus: American LaFrance

Tim Jones

Tim is an active on-call firefighter/EMT with University of Notre Dame FD and is currently an associate member of the St. Joseph Township Fire Department in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He has been an active member of the fire service since 1987. His father and brother serve as member of the fire service as well. In 1991, Tim began his own custom fire shirt design business (T.R. Designs, Inc.) for departments around the U.S. While his company produces customized hats, patches and work shirts, it is probably best know for it highly detailed, mulit-color, apparatus designs. For many years Tim has traveled to individual departments to photograph their apparatus for his shirt art. This led to contributing photographs and department history to Indiana Fire Trucks.

Camera: Konica Minolta Dimage A2   Favorite Apparatus: Heavy Rescues

Eric Scheffel

Eric is the newest photographer for IFT. With his father and uncle currently serving on IFD, he has been interested in firefighting ever since he was a small child. Even his grandfather is a retired firefighter from Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department. Eric lives on the west side of Indianapolis in Wayne Township and is currently a Junior at Ben Davis High School. His district includes Wayne and Pike Townships. You can see his work from the numerous on-scene incidents he has photographed, especially from Wayne Township. Some of Eric's recent pictures have been featured in the IAFF Local 416's Newsletter, The Helmet.

Frank Wegloski

Frank is a former firefighter and a married father of two. Originally from Greenwich, Connecticut,, he now lives in Washington, Indiana. Frank has been photographing fire apparatus for nearly 30 years and posing shots from specific stations for the past 15 years. "I describe myself as one of those kids who always hung out at the firehouse and just never outgrew my love of fire trucks." While he has photographed most of the rigs in Indiana, he helps out Indiana Fire Trucks with numerous rural and smaller volunteer departments. Frank has photographed between 5,000-6,000 rigs from IN, IL and KY in the past decade alone. He has managed so far to shoot apparatus from 31 different states. Frank's two children regularly accompany him on mulit-day photography field trips around the state that can include as many as 40 apparatus a day! Frank's photos have also been featured in Fire Apparatus Journal.
