Fire District - Base 250

SWACFD protects the southwest corner of Allen County immediately south of Fort Wayne. This combination department was formed in 1986 and responds from 3 stations. SWACFD provides Fire, Tactical Rescue and BLS protection to 80 square miles and approximately 25,000 residents within the district.

Base 250 serves as SWACFD headquarters and is home to Engines 251 and 252, Tanker 153, Emergency 255 and Squad 56.

Engine 252 is first due apparatus for all fire, rescue and medical assist incidents from Base 250. It is usually the first-out apparatus with the on-duty crew while additional volunteer personnel respond with other appropriate vehicles. E-252 entered service with the department in May 2008.

In May 2008, this rig was reassigned to serve as the department's primary reserve pumper. It remains at Base 250.

Tanker 253 provides necessary water to the rural areas on the southside of the district including portions of I-469.

Emergency 255 is the first due for EMS calls for Base 250 and portions of Base 150's district. This rig is one of a
growing trend amongst FF/Paramedic ALS departments toward roll-up compartments in the cab to include firefighting gear.

SWACFD's new Tactical truck was put together by the department and a local contractor to serve as an equipment transport
vehicle. It includes a command office in the back and carries equipment for Confined Space and Trench Collapse Rescue, Hazmat containment and Mass Casualty incidents.

Southwest Allen County Training Facility
This excellent facility is located behind Station 251. It serves as a training center for SWACFD and Aboite
Township Fire Departments.
