The City of Columbus
is located just east of I-65 in between Indianapolis and Louisville.
Columbus' 6 Stations provide Fire, Rescue and ALS protection to 65,500+
residents and 35 square miles in
central Bartholomew County.
Columbus Fire Department Station 3 - Central Avenue and IN-46 - Southside
Engine 3 - 2003 American LaFrance
Eagle Custom Pumper - 1500gpm Darley pump/750gal Engine 3 was the first apparatus at Columbus to display their new
the black-over-red paint scheme.
Columbus Fire Department Station 4 - East 25th Street (IN-46) - Far Eastside While it's beginning to show it's age, Station 4 is an architecturally unique building that was designed without a single 90 degree wall
Engine 5 - 1989 Spartan/Boyer - 1250gpm Boyer pump/500gal Engine 5 and a reserve engine are located at Station 5 on Goelle Drive on the
far west edge of Columbus. The rear
of Engine 5 cab has a very unique sliding door section that allows the rear-facing fire fighters to exit onto the pump platform.
Columbus Fire Department Station 6 - Far Southside
Station 6 is a large, well-designed
station off IN-58 on the far south side of Columbus. It was constructed
to help protect the large and growing industrial area along I-65. Engine 6 also
responds to several miles
of I-65 and includes extrication equipment for a fast reponse until Squad 2
arrives.
"Tilly" is the awesome work of one of the department's firefighters
and his father. They converted a previous Cushman
service cart from the department of public works to serve as the cab portion.
They created and built the rear-steering
tiller section from scratch. All of the work was done with donations and private
funds. This unique
apparatus is a favorite with kids and is used for parades and fire-safety events.
