VIPER Decon Team

DCEMS provides ALS transport service throughout Delaware County. They currently respond from three stations with a fourth rig located at Muncie Fire Station 7. DCEMS is comprised of Paramedics and Advanced EMT's that respond on a wide variety of medical calls, often in conjunction with local fire departments. They also respond to Hazardous Materials Incidents with their own Decontamination Team to decon patients prior to transport.

DCEMS Station 3
Station 3 - East Memorial Road at the US-35 bypass - Eastside
Station 3 is located on Muncie's far eastside. It is home to Medic 55, the VIPER Decon Trailer, the DCEMS Incident
Command Trailer and the deparment's Special Response Unit off-road vehicle. This station also has a large conference area
and frequently serves as a training center for DCEMS and other Delaware County departments.

T-5 is the primary vehicle assigned to the VIPER Team and is housed at Station #3 with the VIPER DECON Unit.

Truck 6 serve as the primary unit for the Medical Task Force and pulls trailer 6.

DCEMS Mule
Special Response Unit - Kawasaki Mule 4x4
This rig provides fast EMS response at public events. It can also respond off-road into the various farm fields that dot
much of the county. Hidden from view behind the equipment locker is a Stokes Basket that allows for patient transport.

For large or mass casualty incidents, this trailer can be deployed as an incident command center. It's interior includes an
air-conditioned office. It also carries the SRU Mule shown above.
 
Training 2
DCEMS V.I.P.E.R. Team sets up their Decon Tent
In July 2007, a training exercise occurred at the Delaware County Airport. This was a Hazardous Materials drill that included the Variable Incident Pre-Hospital Response team (VIPER) from DCEMS. The VIPER Team includes the department's special operations group consisting of Emergency Decon, Medical Task Force MCI team, and Bike Medics. Additional agencies involved in the drill included the Delaware County Sheriff, Hamilton Township FD, Madison County Haz Mat Team, and the Delaware County Airport Authority.
