Muncie Fire Department

Muncie is located 59 miles NE of Indianapolis along I-69 in Delaware County. Muncie's 7 stations provide Fire and Rescue protection to 67,000+ residents and the 19,000 students
of Ball State University.

Muncie's Rescue 1 responds to extrications and specialty rescues throughout all of Delaware County from Station 1.

Muncie's fleet includes both 4-man "Squads" and 3-man "Pumps." Muncie 1 and 2 Squad respond to ALS calls along
with Delaware County EMS. They serve as frontline Engines, but also respond for additional manpower to all working fires
and special incidents.

1 Squad runs out of Station 1 downtown and is a 1994 twin to 2 Squad above.

Muncie's fleet included 4 identical Ferrara pumpers at Station 1,2, 4 & 5. Engines 1 & 2 were replaced by the Squads above
with 1 Pump being reassigned to 6 Pump to replace their Sutphen.

Truck 2 is unique in Indiana as one of the few working Tiller Ladders in the state (besides IFD's Ladder 7 and Ladder 31).
Seagrave apparatus are not common in Indiana and it's lime green color definitely sets it apart!

This rig was replaced in 2003 with the Pierce shown above. However, it remains fully equipped and can be made available
as a second rescue truck when necessary.

Sutphen pumpers previously made up the majority of MFD's fleet. While Pumps 1, 3 & 7 remain, the others have been retired.

Pump 5 is first due on the Ball State Campus for Fire and EMS calls. They share a station with reserve snorkel 5.

Pumps 4, 5 & 6 are triplet pumpers that were all delivered in early 1992.

Snorkel 5 has long protected the Ball State University Campus along with Pumps 5. However, with age, it has
been moved to reserve status with Ladder 2 and Pump 7 responding first on all fire calls.

7 Pump serves it's own district for Fire and BLS calls much like a typical engine company. However, it also responds
anywhere on the northside as the primary Ladder Company for structure fires.
