Fire Department

Yorktown is located 53 miles northeast of Indianapolis along IN-32 in western Delaware County. This all-volunteer department currently responds from a single station downtown, but has plans to build a second rural station in the next few years. Like many smaller towns in Indiana, each rig is lettered as to whether the Town or Township purchased them. Yorktown/Mt. Pleasant Township provides Fire, Rescue, and BLS response to approximately 5,000 residents and more than 20 sq. miles.

Rescue 68 is the first due apparatus for all accidents and rescue calls. It includes various equipment for vehicle extrications
and tactical rescues. It is also the second-due apparatus for all city incidents.

Rescue 68 was featured at FDIC 2001. The department added numerous custom features to fit their needs, making this one of the best-equipped and most organized apparatus in the state.

This rig was manufactured just down the road at the old Howe Apparatus Factory in Anderson, IN. It previously served
as the department's rescue unit prior to the arrival of Rescue-68. It is now serves primarily as a reserve apparatus.

Engine 63 is the second- due pumper for structure fires in the town limits.

Tankers 66 and 67 are the first or second due Tankers depending on manpower. Due to it's large tank size and pumping
ability, Tanker-66 is often called upon for mutual aid to nearby rural departments.

Tactical-69 allows for 2-4 first-responders to get to medical and minor incidents quickly. It's foam tank allows for quick suppression of car fires. It also serves as the department's brush unit.

This rig previously ran as the department's first-out unit on medical responses. It briefly served as a support truck (as shown
here) before being reassigned as Hazmat 60. It now responds with the department's Hazardous Materials equipment .

Car 60 serves as the YFD Chief's vehicle and incident command. The LED lighting and custom compartments in the truck
were installed by department personnel at great savings to the their taxpayers.
