The Town of Birdseye is located 135 miles SSE of Indianapolis along I-64 in eastern Dubois County. Organized in 1968, the 22 members of this all-volunteer department respond to approximately 75 runs each year. BVFD protects several miles of I-64, half of Jefferson Twp and a portion of Patoka Township. They also provide response to portions fo Johnson Twp in Crawford County and Clark Twp in Perry County.
Birdseye Fire Station - 1st & Cherry Streets
The left side of this firehouse was built in 1968 and served as the Town Hall, Police Station and Fire Station. The right side addition was completed in 1990 as the department grew.
Engine 101 - 1998 International/E-One Rescue Pumper (#19165) - 1250gpm/500gal
E-101 runs on nearly all incidents. Equipped with Amkus Rescue Tools, it handles extrications on I-64 as well as full firefighting duties.
Squad 103 - 1997 Ford Explorer - Medical QRV
This vehicle was purchased in 2006 for rapid response to medical emergencies in Birdseye.
Tanker 104 - 1988 Ford L8000/1995 FD - 225gpm/2100gal
The cab of this rig previously served as a semi-tractor before being customized for fire use in 1995.
