The City of Elkhart is located 20 miles east of South Bend along the I-80 toll road in northern Elkhart County. EFD's 7 stations provide Fire, Tactical Rescue and ALS protection to 51,800 residents.

Elkhart is unique in that it runs 3 ALS Paramedic Ambulances from their Headquarters downtown.
The crews continually rotate which unit goes out throughout each shift (24 ,21 ,22, then back to 24, etc).
