Nappanee Volunteer Fire Department

Nappanee is located north northeast of Indianapolis in southern Elkhart County along US-6 and IN-19. Nappanee is a volunteer department with a long history. The "Smoky Stovers" are named for an old comic strip character that was created by a Nappanee resident during the 1940's and 1950's. The department was given full license to use the logo to promote the Fire Department on all of their apparatus. Nappanee provides Fire and Rescue protection to the Town of Nappanee, including 6,000 residents and approximately 22 square miles.
