Volunteer Fire Department

The City of Covington is located 75 miles west of Indianapolis along I-74 and US-136 in northern Fountain County. The 20 members of this all-volunteer department respond to 120 runs each year from a single station. CVFD provides Fire, Rescue, Hazmat and Medical First-Responder protection to 7,579 residents and 68 square miles including the City of Covington, Troy Township and portions of Wabash in Fountain County and Mound Township in Warren County.  Their response area includes includes I-74, SR 63, and US 136, and the Wabash River. EMS service is provided by both Fountain County EMS, and Warren County EMS

CVFD's firehouse is located just off of the square of Historic Downtown Covington and is home to all 8 frontline apparatus.

E-50 responds as the second-due Engine Company in town, 1st-out for Mutal Aid and 2nd-out for accident calls.

E-51 serves as the first-due pumper at Covington and was one of the first apparatus in Indiana to feature a Compressed Air
Foam System (CAFS).

Tanker 52 - 1995 International/Schock Welding Custom - 2000 gal
TK-52 is the second-due tanker and also responds second-due for all mutual aid calls. It carries a 2000gal portable dump
tank and portable pumps. This unique design has "T" channels mounted on a rear tailboard to divert water to side or rear dump tanks.

Squad 53 - 1993 Chevy 3500/Unknown walk-in Light Rescue - Hazardous Materials/Decon support
This rig originally served as a green utility truck near Green Bay, Wisconsin. It will now respond with the department's
Hazardous Materials equipment and can pull the Decon Trailer pictured at the bottom of this page. Squad 53 was undergoing
some maintenance this day and was unavailable for outdoor photos.

Fire/Squad 54 - 1968 Chevrolet BelAir Station Wagon
This former apparatus was given to the department by a local dealer. It now serves as a show car with working radio, lights
and sirens. Due to battery issues this day, this classic car was unavailable for our photoshoot.

Brush 55 - 2001 F-350/FD Custom - 250gpm/250gal
Brush 55 carries a portable pump, Indian packs and various items for fighting brush and field fires. This truck was purchased
locally and custom built by department and community members.

Squad 57 - 2001 F-350/Warner - Rescue / Support / Haz-mat
Squad 57 carries a set of Hurst extrication tools, air bags an on-board Cascade system and a full range of EMS supplies. 
This truck was purchased for the department by the Federal CSEPP (Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program).

This rig was originally purchased for HazMat Decon purposes, but will be converted into full-time rescue and medical use in
2009. The remaining Decon equipment will be transferred to Squad 53 shown above.

Ranger 58 - 2008 Polaris Ranger 6x6
58 carries full range of EMS supplies. It is used for quick EMS response at local events as well as Search and Rescue duty
along the Wabash river and the Covington Circle Trail.
 
Decon Trailer
Fountain County Decon Response Unit - 2001 Falcon Trailer
This trailer was provided by CSEPP to use in case of a accident involving the VX gas destruction at the Newport Chemical
Depot. The trailer carries a large supply of Decontamination equipment, including a shower tent.  The trailer is pulled by
either Squad 57 or Squad 53
