Carmel Fire Department is comprised of 159 Firefighters who respond from six stations. CFD is a paid, municipal department comprised of uniformed personnel, 9 of whom are administrative staff members. In addition, the department has 8 full-time and 2 part-time, civilian/ administrative staff members. Carmel Fire Department provides Fire, Technical Rescue, Hazmat and ALS protection to 51 square miles and an estimated City/Township population of more than 75,000

Rescue 45 responds to all extrication, fire and tactical rescue calls throughout Carmel and Clay Township.Originally assigned
as Rescue 41, this rig was re-numbered and moved to Station 45 in 2003 to move it closer to the busiest highways. Due to
it's central location, R-45 can quickly respond to advanced extrications on the heavily-traveled I-465 and US-31 corridors.

Technical 45 responds county-wide to advanced rescues including confined space, trench, rope and high/low angle rescues.

Carmel is the only municipality with their own, dedicated Hazardous Materials Unit in Hamilton County. This rig includes equipment
for decontamination, hazardous containment and a command center for controlled response. In 2008 it was moved from Station 46
to 45 and reassigned as Hazmat 45. This more centralized location allows for quicker access to both US-31 and I-465.

Former Rescue 40 - 2000 KME Excel walk-around Heavy Rescue
Upon it's arrival, this rig was stationed at 42, but was renumbered and moved to reserve status as Rescue 40 in 2004. Originally,
Carmel ran East and West ALS Rescue Companies for the City and Clay Township. However, when the department changed to
running ALS Engine Companies, two Rescues were no longer necessary.
Rescue 40 was sold in 2007 to Merrimack, New Hampshire.

Engine 5 was replaced by Engine 45 in 2003. It served briefly as a reserve before being sold to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico!
