Buck Creek Township
Fire Department - Station 71

Buck Creek Township is located just east of Indianapolis along I-70 in western Hancock County. Established in 1952, this combination department includes 13 full-time and 34 volunteer members. BCTFD provides Fire, Rescue, Hazmat and ALS protection to nearly 6,500 residents and 37 square miles from their two stations. Their protection area includes the towns of Cumberland, Mt. Comfort and Mohawk and the Mount Comfort Airport.

Station 71 - Airport Blvd. - Mount Comfort
This 16,000-square-foot firehouse went into operation in April 2009. The new building provides much needed improvements
and expansion including sleeping rooms, a workout facility, a lounge area, a dining area and training space. Station 71 serves as
BCTFD Headquarters and is home to Engine, Ladder, Tanker, Ambulance, Squad, Medic and Ambulance 71 and Command 7101.

This apparatus previously served the Indianapolis International Airport as Truck 994. It was brought to BCTFD in July
of 2008 and now serves as their primary aerial/truck company. It is undertermined whether it will be painted red to match the
rest of the BCTFD fleet in the future.

Engines 71 and 72 are twin engines that were purchased in 1997. With significantly more miles and wear, E-71 will be
replaced by a Spartan/Seagrave Custom Pumper in October 2009 and be reassigned as a reserve.

This apparatus serves as he chief's take-home vehicle. Equipped with an AED, it can also be used for medical responses.

Former Station 1 - Mount Comfort Road (just south of Mount Comfort Airport at I-70).
Station 71 served as department headquarters for 55 years before they moved into their new home in April 2009.
