Washington Township/Avon
Fire & Rescue - Station 141

The Town of Avon is located just 5 miles west of Indianapolis in eastern Hendricks County along US-36. Established in 1964, AFR includes 60 full-time personnel who provide Fire, Rescue, Hazmat and ALS protection to nearly 12,000 residents. The department is governed, financed and run by Washington Township and not the town of Avon. Washington Township has been a full-time department since 1989 and is one of three career departments in the county.

Station 141
Washington Township Fire Station 141 (Headquarters) - Rockville Road (US-36)
Built in 1964, the left three bays of this building served as Avon's first fire station for many years before larger apparatus
required an addition. The department's administration offices are connected to the firehouse in the back and can be accessed
to the right of the building. Station 141 is home to Battalion 14, Ladder 141 and Rescue 141. Reserve Ambulances and a
reserve engine are also sometimes housed at this location.

L-141 is the department's Aerial Company and rolls on all structure fires and extrication calls. It basically runs as a quint
with it's own primary engine company and medical response district. This rig replaced a 75' dual axle ladder shown at
the bottom of this page.

This unique apparatus is a partial walk-in which allows for additional tool storage in the back half of the unit. It is
equipped with a Nightscan light tower, 9,000lb winch, 35k hydraulic generator and a special oil-dry hopper that is mounted
on the roof and feeds to ground level for disbursement.

After it's extrication equipment was moved to Ladder 141 in 2006, this apparatus was rarely used. In 2008, Rescue 141
will be reassigned and re-equipped to serve as a county-wide Hazmat Response unit still responding from Station 141.
