Kennard
Volunteer Fire Department


The Town of Kennard is located 44 miles east of Indianapolis along IN-234 in western Henry County. Organized in 1924, this all-volunteer department includes 13 members who respond to nearly 100 runs each year. KVFD provides Fire and Medical First-Responder protection to the 500 residents of Kennard.

Station

Kennard Fire Station - Broad Street & East Street
The current firehouse is attached to the back of the post office in downtown Kennard. On April 3rd, 1974 Kennard was hit by one of 4 devastating Tornadoes that struck Central Indiana. Much of the town was leveled and the Town Hall and fire station were destroyed. Pictures of the remains are shown at the bottom of this page.

This large truck was obviously purchased from nearby McCordsville. It will provide much needed water to the rural
response areas surrounding Kennard.

This rig was was purchased with federal disaster funds that remained from rebuilding the Town from the tornado destruction
of April 3,1974.

the midwest that weekend, and one of four distinct tornados that hit Indiana.
