The City of Kokomo is located 48 miles north of Indianapolis along US-31 in Howard County. Kokomo's career department was first founded in 1867 and responds to Fire, Rescue, and BLS calls from 6 fire stations. Kokomo Fire Department protects the City of Kokomo and Center Township including 35 square miles and approximately 46,000 residents.

Kokomo Station 1 serves as Headquarters. It is home to 9 apparatus as well as the Battalion Chief.

Engine 1 is first due Engine for all Fire calls within the city limits. It also runs a primary or secondary ladder company
on structure fires outside it's district. It is staffed by 3-4 personnel.

Kokomo has two Squad companies that respond to BLS calls, extrications and rescues throughout the city.
Each truck runs with 3-4 personnel and includes a complete pump and tank, ladders, extrication tools and dry chemicals to
clean up spills. Squad personnel are cross-trained to perform search and rescue, serve as a ladder company or provide
backup manpower on fire scenes.

Along with Engine 6, Engine 2 is one of two identical pumpers delivered in October 2006. Due to a high volume of
railroad traffic through the city, KFD used to have a second station located in downtown on the opposite side of the tracks.
While Station 2 is no longer, Engine 2 continues to respond first-due to that same district from it's new home at Station 1.

Whenever a Hazardous Materials call incident occurs, Hazmat 1 responds with on-call FF/Hazmat techs from each of the
three shifts. Hazmat 1 can also pull and additional Hazmat equipment trailer for larger incidents.

Kokomo runs two BLS ambulances for incidents and transports within the City of Kokomo. ALS calls are handled by
Howard Regional Health EMS or St. Joseph Hospital EMS rigs that respond to specific districts from the city's two hospitals.

KFD's BC serves as the Incident Commander for all working fires and major incidents north of Defenbaugh on the city's northside. The Battalion will also respond as the highest ranking field commander for multiple alarm incidents.
