The Town of Wheatland is located 45 miles north of Evansville in eastern Knox County. Formed in 1962, STVFD includes 20 volunteer members that
provide Fire and Rescue protection to approximately
1,000 residents in the Town of Wheatland and Steen Township. EMS Service is provided locally by Knox County EMS.
Steen Township Fire Station - Niblack Street at the RR tracks
Courtesy of and SIDC grant, this firehouse was completed in 2007. After making due with a building that had previously
been a drug store (see bottom of this page), this is the first true fire station for the department.
Engine 91 - 1983 Pierce Arrow Pumper - 1250gpm/500gal
This rig was purchased in December 2007 from Vincennes City Fire Department where it had previously served as
Engine 1,
Engine 3 and a reserve.
Tanker 9 - 1974 GMC C7000/1983 TA Brouilette - 200gpm/2000gal
This former DNR rig will be replaced by a 500gpm/3000gal commercial tanker in the summer of 2008 thanks to a SIDC grant.
Brush 9 - 1970 Chevy C40/Alleghany/Midwest - 300gpm/300gal
This rig was purchased from Bicknell, IN in 1998.
Rescue 9 - 1991 Ford E-350/Utilimaster
This truck was purchased from nearby Lawrenceville, IL in 2007
Former Rescue 9 - 1978 Chevy C-65/Hesse/1988 Ferdinand, IN Custom
This truck was purchased from Ferdinand IN in 2000 and was sold by the department in 2007.
