Crown Point Fire-Rescue

The city of Crown Point & Center Township are located in central Lake County, 20 miles southeast of Chicago in Northwest Indiana. Crown Point serves as the county seat and was the first town in Indiana to have an electric traffic light. Responding from a single central station, Crown Point and Center Township apparatus combine to protect approximately 38 square miles. Started in 1873, Crown Point Fire-Rescue has a combination of 21 full-time Firefighter/Paramedics, 50 volunteers, and 6 Administrative Chiefs. CPFR provides protection to 32,000+ residents. Crown Point is the fastest growing city in Lake County and in the region.

This sharp engine responds first-due to most incidents within the city limits. It carries Amkus extrication
tools and advanced life support equipment.

Engine 1511 is second due to all fires and accidents/rescues within the city of Crown Point. All of Crown Point's latest Engines
were ordered with extended cabs to cover the mid-mount pump panel and provide better visualization to the engineer at fire scenes.
While this is fairly common in places like Wisconsin and Minnesota, this is a unique setup for Indiana.

This apparatus is nicknamed "Little Billy" after a firefighter who worked hard to bring this truck to Crown Point,
but passed away shortly before it's arrival.

Rescue 1531 is first due to all accidents, extrications and Hazardous Materials incidents. It is also equipped with
extra air tanks, a cascade system for refilling tanks and can provide additional scene lighting for night incidents.

Engine 4 is first due to all fires within the rural areas of Center Twp in southern Lake County. It is setup for rural fires
with pond intake hoses and other equipment. It can also serve as a reserve engine when maintenance is necessary.

Tanker 1541 is still used regularly to provide water in the more rural eastern sections of Center Township.

Engine 1512 was retired with the arrival of 1515. This rig was updated in the 1990's with a new engine and
automatic transmission to make for a smoother ride and better fit for the driver in the shallow cab. It continued to serve as
the department's primary reserve apparatus through 2007.
