Station 4

The Town of Merrillville is located 36 miles southeast of Chicago in central Lake County along US-30. Ross Township Fire Service, Inc. was formed to unify and consolidate three separate Volunteer Fire Companies to protect the Town and Township. Station 4 was originally organized in 1974 as Merrillville FD Station 2 when the Ross Twp Fire Dept was first formed. RSFS provides Fire, Rescue and Hazmat protection to the Town of Merrillville and all of unincorporated Ross Township, including 35,000 residents and approximately 38 square miles.

If you look closely, you can see that the right two bays were from the original house built in 1975 and the left two were completed as an addition in 1994. This station was originally founded as MVFD Station 2 with it's district including that originally protected by
the Independence Hill Volunteer Fire Department. They became Ross Township District 4 in 2000, after Independence Hill officially
changed their name (and charter) to become Merrillville Fire Department Station 2.
