St.
John is located 31 miles southeast of Chicago in southwest Lake County
along US-421. St. John provides Fire, Rescue and BLS protection to the
Town of St. John and portions of St. John Township, including 10,000
residents and approximately 10 square miles. St. John is a combination
department with five full-time FF/EMT's on each shift supplemented by
volunteers and a full-time chief.
St. John Fire Department Station - Civic Drive at West 93rd Avenue This new station was completed in the summer of 2007 and includes 5 drive-through bays. The city's new public safety building is
shared by the police and fire departments. Conference and training areas are shared, while offices, crew quarters, kitchens and
apparatus bays are separate. This well-planned building is home to all of SJFD's apparatus while a second station is being
considered for southeast of this location.

EMS 3 - Chevy Suburban EMS Response Vehicle
EMS 3 serves a unique function. While they are awaiting the completion
of a new fire station, SJFD is currently located
at the Public Works Garages. However, since there is no place for sleeping quarters,
the two FF's on each shift can choose to
sleep in their own homes. One responds with this vehicle and the other with
the first-due Ambulance.
