Whiting Fire Department

The City of Whiting is located along Lake Michigan just 22 miles southeast of Chicago. This small city includes a mix of residential, commercial and industrial properties. Since 1889, it is also home to one of the largest oil refineries in the country, which has it's own separate
Fire Department. Whiting is a career department that with five full-time personnel each shift and 2 on-call personnel available for larger incidents. Whiting provides EMS, Fire, and Rescue protection to 5,000 residents
from it's downtown station.

Along with Engine 1, Tower 1 rolls out on all structure fires. It is driven to the scene by a single firefighter and then
manned by a combination of Engine Company firefighters and on-call personnel as they arrive on scene.

Engine 2 began it's life at Whiting as a 65' Quint. It was later converted to a straight triple-combination pumper.
After it's ladder was removed, a deck gun was mounted on the remaining turntable. Engine 2 now serves primarily as the
department's reserve engine..

Support 1 responds as the department's rescue and support vehicle. It's equipment included a light tower, additional air tanks,
extrication equipment and additional saws and tools not kept on the Engine.

Each of the department's two ambulances are staffed by the firefighter/EMT's that crossover from the engine crew.
A nearly identical 1999 model serves as the second response Ambulance..
