Michigan City Fire Department

Michigan City is located along Lake Michigan and I-94 in northern LaPorte County. MCFD's career department responds from 4 stations located around the city limits. MCFD provides Fire and Tactical Rescue protection to nearly 35,000 residents. ALS/BLS Transport is provided throughout most of the county by LaPorte County EMS.

Station 1
Station 1 - "Harbor City Classics" - 1012 Ohio Street at 11th Street
During 1999 and 2000, MCFD completed the construction of four identical fire stations to replace 6 older firehouses. With the
exception of this station downtown, the remaining stations were placed around the permimeter of the city in an effort to provide
the fastest reponse and coverage for all areas of the city. Station 1 is designated the "Harbor City Classics" after MCFD's first fire company, "Harbor City" that protected the city back in 1885.

Engine 1 is the first-due apparatus from MCFD's downtown station. Engines 1 and 3 are twin pumpers ordered by the department.
In addition to a vast array of firegfighting equipment, both carry combination tools for light extrication.

Engine 2 - 1999 Pierce Dash Quint 65' Telesqurt - 1250gpm/500gal
Engine 2 responds from a single-engine house located at 2005 East US Highway 12. The 2's protect the northeast side of the
city including the new Blue Chip Casino.

Station 3

Station 3 - "Runway Rats" - 1310 Highway 212 at the Airport
Completed in 2000, Station 3 is a single-engine house that protects the southeast side of the city including the Michigan City Airport.
Nicknamed for obvious reasons, this station is the most secluded of MCFD's firehouses.

Station 4
Station 4 - 5000 Cleveland Avenue at US-20 - Southwest
Station 4 protects the busy commercial corridors along US-20 including the Mall. The 4's is home to Engine 4 and Ladder 4.

Engine 4 - 2001 Pierce Saber Rescue Pumper - 1250gpm/500gal
In addition to it's own primary protection district, Engine 4 carries a full set of extrication equipment and rams and responds to advanced extrications throughout the city.

Ladder 4 reponds as the primary aerial device across the southside of town.
