Volunteer Fire Department, Inc.

Springfield Township is located just east of Michigan City near the Indiana/Michigan state line in northern LaPorte County. Established in 1960, STVFD remains 100% volunteer with 26 current members. Seven apparatus respond from a central station to provide Fire, Rescue and BLS non-transport protection to the Township's 40 square miles. Their district includes I-94 along with 4 state highways. Springfield Township responds to approximately 400 runs each year.

1943 is a BLS Engine with a full compliment of Hurst Tools. It is first due on all structure fires and second-due on vehicle
accidents and extrication calls. E-1943 is powered by a 350 Cummins ISL with an Allison transmission.

1956 is the first Tanker out on structure fires and mutual aid calls.

The Twinsteer rear-steering mechanism on this rig allows it to turn incredibly sharply, which makes positioning for dump
tank deliveries very easy for such a large and heavy truck.

1957 is second due for all structure fires and is second-out on all brush and grass fires.

Rescue 1961 is first out for all BLS Medical calls. It is state certified as a BLS non-transport unit.

The very cool smoky flames around STVFD's logo were created using a blowtorch to char out the design and then clearcoating
over it. Sharp!
