Bedford Fire Deparment

The City of Bedford is located 75 miles SSW of Indianapolis at along IN-37 in central Lawrence County. Establishd in 1892, this career department includes 37 members who respond to approximately 600 runs each year. BFD provides Fire and Rescue protection to 14,000 residents and 12.5 square miles in the City of Bedford. They also provide extrication response to the entire 56 square miles of Lawrence County.

Station 1

Station 1 - H Street & 19th - Headquarters
Completed in 1967, Station 1 is home to 6 apparatus and the department's administration offices. Both Station 1 & 2 are built
from native southern Indiana limestone mined from local quarries. Bedford is known as the "Limestone Capital of the World."

Engine 1 - 1998 KME Excel Pumper - 1250gpm/1500gal
Engine 1 responds first-due for fire calls from Station 1 and typically runs with 4 Firefighters and one officer.
 
Rescue 1 ds
Rescue 1 - 1996 Ford F-700/KME - 1000gpm/750gal
Rescue 1 was converted to 4x4 by Marmon Herrington and typically responds with 3 Firefighters
 
Ladder 1 ds
Ladder 1 - 2007 Ferrara Inferno 100ft mid-mount Tower - 2000gpm/300gal
L-1 automatically responds to most building alarms and responds to other fire and rescue calls as needed.

Rescue 5 - 1981 GMC/Indiana Fire - 300gpm/300gal
Rescue 5 responds as the reserve rescue apparatus for BFD

Station 2
Station 2 - 5th and Lincoln
Built in 1932, this single-engine firehouse on the city's north side is home to Engine 2.

This rig previously served as Ladder 2 responding from HQ. However, with the arrival of the new Ladder 1 in 2007, this
apparatus was reassigned as Engine 3. It is first-due for all incidents at Bedford's third station located at 29th and Illinois streets.
