Franklin Township Fire Department
Station 51 - Wanamaker

In 1991 three separate volunteer departments of Wanamaker (Station 51), Acton (Station 52) and Bunker Hill (Station 53) were consolidated into the Franklin Township Fire Department. Today FTFD includes 70 career personnel that provide, Fire, Tactical Rescue and ALS protection from five stations located across the Township in southeastern Marion County.

Station 51 is home to Engine, Ambulance, Tanker and TSU 51 as well as a reserve ambulance. 6 full-time personnel serve
here each shift to man the most appropriate apparatus.

"First in... Last Out"
In late 2007, this apparatus swapped assignments with Engine 51. It now runs as Aerial 51 from Station 51 in Wanamaker. This rig responds to it's own primary Engine Company district and provides a quick aerial support response for Stations 52 and 55.

TSU 51 - 1985 Chevrolet Stepvan Tactical Support Unit
TSU 551 carries spare air cylinders, salvage covers, an electric generator, a smoke ejector fan, various saws and a multitude
of other essential firefighting tools. This truck also includes a cascade system that allows SCBA air bottles to be filled on scene.

In late 2007, this truck was swapped with Aerial 53 and reassigned as Engine 553. This apparatus has a twin at Station 554.

 
 

Note: RSU 551 - 1973 Chevrolet Stepvan was retired in 2007 and will be sold by the department.
