Station 61

Perry Township's four stations protect a 45 square mile area of south-central Marion county. PTFD provides Fire, Rescue and BLS protection to approximately 92,000 residents. ALS/BLS transport service is contracted out to Rural/Metro Ambulance.

Station 61 is the only station without an ambulance and is located next door to the department's maintenance facility in
the north central portion of the township. Engine 61 and Strike Rig 61 are designated an Extrication Task Force for serious
MVA's throughout the township.

Strike Rig 61

In August 2008, this rig entered service as the department's first true Heavy Rescue. Centrally located at Station 61, the
Strike Rig responds to all fire, rescue and extrication calls throughout the Township.

The term "Strike Rig" best fit the purpose of this truck which is used for manpower and rescue purposes. SR-61 carries
twin Holmatro Extrication sets (one leading from each side of the truck), along with enough large air bags to lift a railroad car.
This apparatus also carries minor Hazmat response and Confined Space Rescue equipment.

Squad 61 enters service at Station 61 in March 2009. This apparatus serves a dual purpose. It is first-due for all medical calls
from the station and also carries additional Trench Rescue equipment to supplement Strike Rig 61.

The back end of Squad 61 has the new standard reflective Chevrons. However, in order to achieve this look, hundreds
of individual, maltese-shaped stickers were applied by hand to the diamond plate panels across this rig.

One Battalion Chief serves as the Command for each 24 hour shift and has responsibility for all four stations and
appropriate incidents. The Safety Officer respond along with the Battalion on all mulpule alarm and working incidents.
 
Station 1 - 1108 East Thompson Road at Madison Avenue
Reserve Engine 665 (Former E-661) - 1997 Pierce Saber Custom Pumper - 1250gpm/750gal
After serving the department for more than a decade, this battle-worn apparatus was replaced in August 2008 with the Pierce
Velocity Pumper at Station 61. It was then moved to reserve status and will be reassigned as Reserve Engine 665.

This apparatus was renumbered and reassigned as Aerial 664 in late 2006 and then reassigned again as Aerial 661 in early
2008. It was sold by the department in October 2008.
 
ALS Rescue Squad 661 - 1999 International/Saulsbury Rescue Pumper - 1250gpm/500gal

This ALS apparatus was previously manned by a paramedic along with 2-3 additional firefighters. Rescue 661 was
replaced by Strike Rig 61 in August of 2008.
