Speedway Fire Department
Station 202

Known as the "Racing Capital of the World," Speedway, Indiana is home to the Indy 500, Brickyard 400 and US Grand Prix. Speedway started as a volunteer department in 1903 and went full-time in 1971. Speedway responds from two stations to protect this town of 13,000 residents and 9 square miles that is completely surrounded by the City of Indianapolis.

Engine 202 was specifically purchased as a short-wheelbase Engine which allows for easier access to the small streets of Speedway.
It's size also helps this rig to operate more safely in the crazy traffic and large crowds that take over the town during race weekends.

In 2007, Ladder 202 was sent out for an extensive 8-month refub. During that time, the department moved around
their apparatus and renumbered them with their temporary designations. This is a rare shot of
Engine 201 serving temporarily as Ladder 202.
