Fire Department The Town of Portage is located in between Chicago and South Bend along I-80 in northwest Porter County. This career department responds to more than 3,500 runs each year. PFD's 3 stations provide Fire, Rescue and ALS protection to approximately 35,000 residents. |

| 2002 Fireblast Live Fire Trainer Located behind Station 1, this live fire simulator provides firefighters the training experience of performing several different structural firefighting evolutions under as real as conditions as possible. Portage is one of the only department in the area that provides its own Fire Academy for training new hires. Portage Firefighters are fortunate to be able to train in this trailer, which was purchased with the assistance of the federal government through the FireAct Grant program. |
