Valparaiso Fire Department

The City of Valparaiso is located 50 miles east of Chicago along
US-30 in central Porter County. Originally established in 1868, the department now includes 50 career firefighters who respond from two stations. VFD provides Fire, Rescue and ALS/BLS protection to more than 35,000 residents of Valparaiso and Center Township. Their response area includes nearly 30 square miles including the Valparaiso University Campus.

Fire Station 2 - VFD Headquarters - 2605 Cumberland Drive at Vale Park Avenue
Located on the northside of Valparaiso, Station 2 is home to the department's administration offices as well as eight apparatus.
Station 2's fleet includes Engines 2 & 3, Rescues 2 & 3, Tower 1 and Squads 2 & 3 and the department's rescue boats.

This apparatus was the first ambulance designed for VFD's full-time ALS/BLS service in 2007.

Tower 1 is the department's only aerial device and responds to all working fires.

Prior to the arrival of their ambulance service, VFD ran two, 2-man squads for medical assist calls.

Squad 3 - AMG Hummer Brush Truck/Mini-Pumper - 200 Gal/130 PSI
Squad 3 was originally purchased as a quick-response rescue squad. However, the compartment space was not adequate
to store necessary rescue equipment. Squad 3 was redesignated to a brush truck once Squad 2 was purchased.
S3 can also responds to water rescue incidents and pulls the rescue boat trailer.
