Centre
Township is located on the southside of the South Bend in
St. Joseph County. The Township includes mostly residential and
commercial areas including a large portion of the heavily travelled
US-31 corridor. Started in 1948, Centre Township provides Fire, Rescue,
and BLS protection to approximately 8,000 residents. Centre Township
is a combination department with 2 full-time FF's at the station
supplemented by volunteers for larger incidents.

Ladder 191 was purchased from Cedar Knolls, NJ in 2002 after is had been refurbished with a new cab
and larger water tank.

Engine 142 was #18 of the first 100 Inferno chassis manufactured by Ferrara in
their initial production year.

and is the first out Engine company for most incidents.

Engine 140 is usually the first out engine for structure fires due to it's larger
water capacity.
Tanker 150 - 1993 Freightliner
FL70/Luverne - 500gpm/1800gal
With very limited hydrant locations within the township, every piece of apparaus
carries a large amount of water.
Rescue 160 - 1993 Freightliner
FL80/EVI Walk-in Heavy Rescue
Rescue 160 includes a 5-man cab and carries advanced extrication equipment for
the numerous accidents CTFD responds to along US-31.
Command 161 - 2004 Ford Excursion
This rig serves as a response vehicle and Command Post for the fire chief
at larger incidents.
This rig was purchased new by the department and has now served for more than 35 years!

This rig previously served as the department's Command vehicle. It is now used for manpower response and for pulling the light tower.
