University
of Notre Dame Notre Dame has had it's own fire department for nearly 140 years. In the mid-1980's Notre Dame became a full time department. Each shift 1 Captain and 3 FF/EMT's provide BLS, Fire and Tactical Rescue protection to the University Campus which includes more than 150 buildings and 12,000 daytime residents. Additional paid-on-call personnel supplement the full-time Notre Dame staff for large events and incidents. ALS service is provide by South Bend Fire/EMS. |

A navy-colored truck with a gold roof considered for this engine, yes! But, University administration ultimately decided that "all fire trucks should be red." |

F-250 XLT Super Duty/Monroe Custom Utility Bodies Squad 252 is first due on all Medical and Fire Calls on campus. Notre Dame is supplemented by South Bend Fire Department for ALS ambulance service and for additional ALS stand-by units for all NCAA events. |

Squad 1184 - 2006 Toro 4x4 Diesel Squad 1184 is used for special event and is staffed by FF/EMT's during Notre Dame Athletic Events. The equipment cabinet located on the rear of this vehicle contains various BLS medical equipment. During the week it is used as the Fire Alarm Tech Cart. |

| Former Car 254 - 1994 Ford Explorer Car 254 was previously used as a technician's vehicle to check and maintain the university's extensive fire alarms and sprinkler systems. The 4x4 above is used for that purpose now. |

| Former Ladder Truck -
1958 Pirsch 85' mid-mount aerial ladder - 250gpm/150gal This apparatus formerly served the department from 1982-1992. Since that time, South Bend FD is called in whenever a fire alarm requires an aerial truck. This truck had been sold to a private resident, but was brought back and re-labeled to celebrate the opening game of the 2005 Notre Dame football season. |
