Penn Township Fire Department
Station 1

Penn Township is located 95 miles east of Chicago and 140 miles north of Indianapolis in eastern St. Joseph County. Penn Twp is just east of South Bend and essentially surrounds the City of Mishawaka. 4 stations provide Fire, Rescue and BLS protection to nearly 65,000 residents. PTFD is a combination department with full-time members at each location supplemented by volunteers for larger incidents. South Bend Medic 12 is located at Station 2 and responds to most of the district for all EMS calls.

Completed in September 2005, Station 1 serves as Penn Township Headquarters and is home to 7 apparatus.
Station #1 is located just south of the US 20 Bypass on the corner of Jackson and Elm Road

2151 is the primary tanker for station one's territory. It is the second response apparatus for all fire calls including commercial,
residential buildings and brush fires.

2171 is the first unit out for all brush and field fires from Station 1 and can also be used for traffic control.

2175 is PTFD's general purpose vehicle and is second out for major accidents, providing road barricades and safety cones.

2165 is an ALS-certified non-transport unit that provides rapid EMS response. It can also be used to transport additional
personnel to a fire scene and is equipped with SCBA's and other fire related equipment.

The Chief's vehicle is a bit unique at PTFD in that it responds to nearly all incidents medical, fire and rescue. This rig rotates
stations each week and from their the Chief responds throughout the response area. With so many runs and miles on this vehicle,
it is scheduled to be replaced in August 2008 with another Tahoe.

In addition to it's aerial, this truck carries 28' and 35' extension ladders, 16' & 20' roof ladders, an 8' attic ladder
and a 12' folding ladder. This rig is now marked out-of-service and is being sold in 2007. A new aerial will be spec'd sometime
later in the year for possible delivery in 2008.
