Penn Township is located 95 miles east of Chicago and 140 miles north of Indianapolis in eastern St. Joseph County. Penn Twp is just east of South Bend and essentially surrounds the City of Mishawaka. 4 stations provide Fire, Rescue and BLS protection to nearly 65,000 residents within the township. Penn Township is a combination department with full-time members at each location supplemented by volunteers for larger incidents. South Bend Medic 12 is located at Station 2 and responds to most of the district for all EMS calls.

While Station 3 is not currently staffed 24 hours, the close proximity of firefighter's homes still allows for a quick response

This apparatus was sold to a department in Montana in 2006. At that time, the current 2143 was reassigned from 2141.

Located in the far northeast corner of the Township, Station 4 is home to Engine 2144, Rescue 2164 and the PTFD Safety Trailer.

This unique pumper includes roll-up doors covering it's rear mount pump panels. It also carries a portable dump tank.
While roto-rays are common in the East Coast, this is one of the few rigs with them in northern Indiana.

Engine 2144 - 2003 Spartan Alexis - 1250gpm Waterous Pump/1000gal
Engine 2142 was reassigned to 2144 in late 2006. It now runs permanently from Station 4.

Rescue 2164 - 2002 HME/Amtech walk-around Heavy Rescue
2164 is first due for all auto accidents, extrication and rescue calls from Station 4.
