Portage Township Fire Department
"The Wild Wild West"

Portage Township is located in St. Joseph County on the west side of South Bend. PTFD responds with 6 apparatus from one station to protect 10 square miles and approximately 1,200 residents. Their protection district surrounds the South Bend Airport.

In 2007, this rig was refurbed by RPI out of Tipton. The rear of the cab was enclosed and the lighting was changed
compared to an earlier picture below. It now serves as the department's third-out engine.

Engine 1543 previously served as PTFD's first due engine. Due to small compartment and tank size, it was sold to a
department in Colorado in 2006. This rig was replaced by the 2006 Pierce Dash custom pumper at the top of this page.
