South Bend is Indiana's fourth largest city. It is located in between
Ft. Wayne and Chicago along I-90 and the Michigan state line. Founded as a full-time department in 1887, South Bend Fire Department now includes 248 firefighters and 11 fire stations. Together they provide Fire, Tactical Rescue, Hazmat and ALS protection to 107,000+ residents in St. Joseph County.

This long-awaited building was completed in early 2005 as the deptment's new headquarters. This new facility offers a more
central location, drive-through bays and much more apparatus and living space than the old Station 1.

are reassigned to other stations.

the Aerial Tower when the new Station 1 opened in 2005.

Rescue 1 is staffed by four personnel and responds to all working fires, entrapments and tactical rescues throughout South Bend.
The front half of the rear compartment includes a walk-in area with seating so the rescue personnel can dress and prepare for
Dive and other incidents while easily communicating with the other crew members.

This rig served as SBFD's frontline rescue for more than a decade until replaced by the rig above in October 2007. It currently
serves as a reserve rescue truck, but will likely begin carrying advanced technical rescue equipment not carried by R-1.

Medics 2 & 3 protect the central and downtown areas of South Bend. SBFD responds with 4 ALS Ambulances within the city
(Medics 2,3,4,10) and an additional 3 throughout the rest of St. Joseph County. These nearly identical units are painted red for
