South Bend is Indiana's fourth largest city. It is located in between
Ft. Wayne and Chicago along I-90 and the Michigan state line. Founded as a full-time department in 1887, South Bend Fire Department now includes 248 firefighters and 11 fire stations. Together they provide Fire, Tactical Rescue, Hazmat and ALS protection to 107,000+ residents in St. Joseph County.

M-10 has the largest response area of any SBFD medic. Medic 10 runs from the county lines east and west across
the southside of the city from it's home at Station 10.

11's is a single-engine house located on the city's northeast side immediately south of the Indiana Toll Road.

In the spring of 2007 this rig was purchased "lightly used" from the West Milton Fire Company in Ohio. While slightly longer
than some of the SBFD Engines, it has a similar setup and fit right into the current fleet.

South Bend provides 3 "County" Ambulances the offer ALS Transport outside of the city limits. These rigs continued with the previous white color scheme, while the four SBFD City Ambulances changed to red with the same design.
Medic 12 is actually stationed at Penn Township Fire Station 2 on the east side of the county.

SBFD Medic 12 is located at Penn Township Fire Department Station 2 and responds to most of the Penn Township's
district for all EMS calls. It is one of three "county" ALS Ambulances run by full-time SBFD personnel.
