South Bend is Indiana's fourth largest city. It is located in between
Ft. Wayne and Chicago along I-90 and the Michigan state line.
Founded as a full-time department in 1887, South Bend Fire Department now includes 248 firefighters and 11 fire stations.
Together they provide Fire, Tactical Rescue, Hazmat and ALS protection to 107,000+ residents in St. Joseph County.

Located on the city's west side, the 4's is home to E-4, M-4 and the Salvation Army Canteen Truck.

In the spring of 2007, this truck underwent a refurb and repaint at RPI and was reassigned from E-11 to E4.

This truck is shown here in it's last week of full-time service. It was refurbished and moved to reserve status in June 2007
after having also previously served as Engine 4.

Quint 5 - 1992 Pierce Arrow 65' rear-mount ladder - 1500gpm/500gal
Quint 5 (formerly Engine 10) is a frequently used reserve apparatus for all ladder companies/quints. Although all other SBFD
engine and aerial companies are numbered according to their station assignment, this truck was too tall to have ever served Station 5.

Whenever Q-3 is out of service for maintenance, Q1 moves to station 3 and Q5 moves in as the primary reserve at Station 1.
This truck was refurbished several years ago and remains one of the fastest and favorite rigs in the SBFD fleet.
